It is a theorem that links the concept of differentiating a function, calculating the gradient,

with the concept of integrating a function, calculating the area under the curve

The theorem helps us find the area of the region bounded by the curve y = f x,

above the x axis and in between the vertical lines x = a and x = b

The area of an entire curved region can be calculated by just evaluating an antiderivative at the first and last endpoints of an interval

If a function f has an antiderivative F, then the definite integral of f from a to b is equal to F b minus F a.

It establishes the relationship between differentiation and integration

Using this theorem astronomers could finally determine distances in space
