  • A skin allergy is a reaction caused by a substance that comes in contact with the skin.
  • Immune system produces substances known as antibodies. Some of these antibodies protect you from unwanted invaders that could make you sick or cause an infection.
  • Skin irritations are caused by a variety of factors.
  • These include heat, immune system disorders, medications and infections.

  • Airborne allergens, such as pollen, animal dander, dust mites and mold.
  • Contact with dyes, cosmetics, perfume, latex, topical medications, poison ivy, detergent and some metals may cause skin allergy.
  • Skin allergy is caused by your immune system over-responding to common substances such as food, insect bites, or plants.
  • Skin allergies happen when your skin touches something that your immune system believes is dangerous.
  • Food products that may cause skin allergy.
  • Several metals as: nickel, gold, cobalt some medical products, antiperspirants, hair dyes, metal plated objects, cobalt blue, mercury compound may cause skin problem.

  • Skin allergy symptoms:
    • Rashes
    • Itching
    • Redness
    • Swelling
    • Blistering
    • Weeping
    • Red dry-skin patches
    • Skin inflammation
  • Hives caused by a skin allergy are not contagious and are generally brought about by exposure to certain plants, foods, medications, or insects.
  • Angioedema is another skin-based symptom related to food and drug allergies.
  • Contact dermatitis is a symptom of an allergic reaction to something you've touched; it shows up in the form of a rash. It's normally not as itchy as it is painful.
  • Atopic dermatitis is a type of allergic reaction that's displayed on your skin. Also known as eczema, atopic dermatitis is a red, scaly and itchy rash that normally affects the face, elbows and knees.

  • Skin allergy testing is a method for medical diagnosis of allergies that attempts to provoke a small, controlled, allergic response.

  • Prick test

  • In the prick (scratch) test, a few drops of the purified allergen are gently pricked on to the skin surface, usually the forearm.
  • This test is usually done in order to identify allergies to pet dander, dust, pollen, foods or dust mites.
  • Intradermal injections are done by injecting a small amount of allergen just beneath the skin surface.

  • Patch test

  • The patch test simply uses a large patch which has different allergens on it.
  • The patch is applied onto the skin, usually on the back.

  • Skin end point titration

  • To prevent a severe allergic reaction, the test is started with a very dilute solution.
  • ¬†After 10 minutes, the injection site is measured to look for growth of wheal, a small swelling of the skin.

  • Taking diet that is rich in natural foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and drinking at least 8 to 10 glasses of fresh water every day.
  • Application of natural herbs such as sandalwood paste/ oil, tea extracts which is quite useful for skin acne, fresh turmeric paste with curd and gram flour on the skin.
  • Application of homemade moisturizers on the skin will help in avoiding dry skin problems.
  • Do regular exercises to keep your body fit and healthy. Yogic exercises like Meditation do help in reducing the skin allergies.
  • Treatment of hives is often successful with oral antihistamines that control the itch and recurrence of the rash.
  • Cleaning the skin affected by allergy with 3 cups of water mixed with basil, rosemary, licorice, chamomile, turmeric is one of the best remedy to treat skin allergy naturally.

  • Avoid smoking and consumption of alcohol.
  • Eat food rich in vitamin B and vitamin C that is helpful in the prevention of skin allergies.
  • Avoid using cosmetic products on the skin that contains potential harmful chemicals
  • Avoid stress.
  • Avoid taking dairy foods and avoid taking whole wheat during certain seasons that seems to be allergic.
  • In order to avoid the pain caused due to metal allergy, stainless steel needle must be used for piercing.
  • Mostly every person wears minimum one finger ring.
  • To protect the fingers from the allergies, apply several coats of clear or transparent nail polish at the back of the ring.
